“MOYE AND I got into a fight, and I don’t want to talk about it. I’m just letting y’all know because I see you giving each other looks, wondering what I’m doing at home,” I said, taking a Pop-Tart out of the wrapper the next morning.

“Are you alright?” Nic asked.

“What happened?” This from Stephanie.

“Where’s Moye?” Again, from Nicole.

“I don’t know. I lied to him, and he could tell. He was really pissed.”

“What’d you lie about?” Steph asked, pouring some orange juice.

“He saw me right after I had a run-in with Sean. I was upset, and I wouldn’t tell him about it because I thought it would make matters worse.”

“Pipe, you don’t need to lie about Sean. He’s going to think something is still going on,” Nic said, rubbing my back.

“I know. I just didn’t want it to be a big deal.”

“Just don’t be too hard on Moye. He loves you,” Steph said.

“I know. We’re just so different. He wants to talk about everything all the time. You guys know I’m not like that. I think it’s okay to tell a little lie, if you’re doing it to keep from hurting someone’s feelings; he thinks it’s a sin.”

“Well it is—”

“Not now, Nic. We’ll tell her how wrong she is later, when they are all lovey-dovey again,” Steph said.

“I just don’t know. I like to be by myself sometimes. I’m weird and I accept that. He’s just so—not like me,” I said, ignoring their conversation.

“You’re not weird. You’re just doing what you know. It wouldn’t kill you to talk about your feelings some. You are just used to expressing them in drawings or music.”

“I know. I’ll try. I’m just not ready yet. I need to be by myself for a little bit.”

“Don’t take too long, Pipe. Trust me, you don’t want to lose what you got,” Nic encouraged.

“Thanks, girls.”

I really thought Moye would try to contact me throughout the day, but he didn’t. I kind of loved that about him. I told him what I wanted, and he was giving it to me. I guess I was missing him more than I thought I would. I went into work that afternoon in a weird mood. I wasn’t exactly sad, but I felt like something was missing. I wasn’t ready to have the conversation I needed to have with Moye yet, and I knew to fix what was wrong, it was going to have to happen, along with some groveling on my part.

“Damn, who let the crazies in here tonight?” Cole asked, filling orders.

I was getting change from the cash register and answered, “Who the hell knows, but I wish they’d go back to where they came from.”

“It’s that douche-bag on stage. I’d bet my next paycheck he’s been with half the chicks in this place.”

“Cole, are you jealous?” I laughed.

“Hell no! That prick wishes he was half the man I am,” he said, flexing his right bicep. That’s when all the whistling and cat-calling came our way. He really was super hot, and his sleeve tattoos made him hotter in my book.
